Course Description

You can get started by registering. Once registered you can login and begin taking the course.

Overall Objectives

  • increase your knowledge and awareness of accessibility issues that have the potential to impact business
  • provide some understanding of the AODA 2005 and its impact on SME's (the complete Act is available at www.mcss.gov.on.ca/accessibility/index.html)
  • provide resources and tools that will enhance the process of SME's in planning and preparing for the regulations that affect the way business is conducted
  • over time keep SME's informed through Module 3 of the regulations as they become law, compliance requirements and penalties for non-compliance

The course is divided into three modules.

Module 1: Foundations of Accessibility

Objectives

  • understand what standards are
  • understand accessibility and disability
  • explore accommodation needs
  • awareness of personal assumptions and attitudes

Outcomes

  • enhanced awareness of how the lack of accessibility impacts on business
  • completed accessibility audit
  • completed action plan for implementing standards


Module 2: Serving Customers with Disabilities

Objectives

  • understand the range of disability
  • awareness of the language of disability
  • understand how best to serve the needs of clients who have a disability

Outcomes

  • completion of a broader customer service accessibility audit
  • completed action plan for providing excellent customer service


Module 3: Standards

Under the AODA accessibility standards will be set that will impact on the way we do business in Ontario. As these standards are developed and become regulations information and details will be posted in Module 3.
