Eligibility for Project Participants With Disabilities:

In order to test the effectiveness of the Project, Community Sites and members of Local Community Learning Networks will recruit Formal Project Participants with disabilities. Formal Participants with disabilities are people who have a permanent disability or chronic health issue. The World Health Organization defines disability as any restriction or lack of ability, (resulting from an impairment) to perform an activity in the manner or within the range considered normal for a human being.

The benefit of becoming a Formal Participant is that a person with a disability will receive online guidance in completing the Project’s Exploring Self Employment Opportunities for People With Disabilities - A Self-Assessment Workbook Course not available to the general public. To be accepted as a Formal Participant, individuals must have: a business idea; require assistance to assess the viability of their business idea; and, be referred to SEDI by members of the Local Community Learning Network through the Community Sites.

If you are interested in becoming a Formal Participant please contact the Community Site in your area. These sites are located in Richmond and Nelson British Colombia; Thunder Bay and Sudbury Ontario; and, Halifax Nova Scotia. Please see Community Sites for contact information.

Formal Project Participants will assist the Project by agreeing to:

  1. Complete the self-employment self-assessment workbook course online.
  2. Work with Project Coaches online, who will provide guidance in completing the workbook course.
  3. Participate in online self-employment self-assessment discussion groups.
  4. Participate in an evaluation of the Project by completing surveys and allowing the Project to collect information on her/his progress. Appropriate safeguards are in place to protect personal information and privacy. (Please see Privacy Statement.)
  5. Participate in a pilot project that is developmental and bears no responsibility or liability for services provided or taken by the participant.
